Attach and data connectivity
Check cell selection, authentication, LTE attach and default bearer establishment. Configure subscriber credentials and APNs, then run IPv4 or IPv6 traffic between the device and your application.
Develop and debug LTE modems, smartphones, routers and connected products with the AMARI Callbox Series. Configure an eNodeB, EPC and IMS in one platform, then follow the device from network attach to data traffic and voice calls.

Check cell selection, authentication, LTE attach and default bearer establishment. Configure subscriber credentials and APNs, then run IPv4 or IPv6 traffic between the device and your application.
Select the LTE band, carrier bandwidth and duplex mode supported by your device and Callbox hardware. Start from a supplied configuration and change one parameter at a time to reproduce the network conditions you need.
Configure primary and secondary LTE cells, check the band combinations reported by the device and observe secondary-cell activation. Compare uplink and downlink traffic across supported carrier combinations.
Explore supported LTE transmission modes and 2x2 or 4x4 MIMO configurations. Inspect CQI reports, modulation, retransmissions and throughput while changing the radio setup. Antenna paths and available layers depend on the chosen model.
Use the embedded IMS for registration, VoLTE calls and SMS testing. Start with an audio loopback call and review SIP alongside LTE signalling to investigate call setup and release.
Configure neighbouring cells and exercise reselection, handover and recovery after coverage loss. Intra-eNodeB handover uses multiple cells within one RAN instance; inter-eNodeB scenarios need two RAN instances.
Test LTE MOCN configurations with multiple PLMNs. For DSDS or DSDA devices, use suitable separate network configurations and SIM credentials to investigate paging, calls and data activity across the subscriptions.
Extend validation to CMAS alerts, aperiodic CSI reporting and device behaviour under configured error cases. Save the scenario and repeat it after firmware changes, comparing signalling and application results.
Use the supplied configuration files to establish a known working connection. Keep a copy, adapt the radio and core settings, and record the software version and device firmware.
Inspect RRC and NAS messages, radio statistics and IMS signalling in the WebGUI. Correlate the protocol exchanges with the failed connection, data transfer or call.
Use the WebSocket API to control supported network parameters, retrieve statistics and coordinate repeatable test sequences with your device and traffic tools.
Size the setup around the complete test: simultaneous cells, carrier aggregation, MIMO and any LTE/NR combination.
| Model | Suggested use |
|---|---|
| AMARI Callbox Mini | Single-cell LTE development. An example configuration is one 20 MHz LTE cell with 2x2 MIMO. |
| AMARI Callbox Classic | LTE-focused multi-cell and carrier-aggregation tests. An example configuration is three 20 MHz LTE cells with 2x2 MIMO. |
| AMARI Callbox Advanced | LTE tests requiring additional antenna resources, including 4x4 MIMO, or a combined LTE and NR test plan. |
| AMARI Callbox Ultimate | More radio resources for multi-carrier LTE, mobility and mixed LTE/NR configurations. |
| AMARI Callbox Extreme | Larger test configurations combining multiple carriers, antenna paths and technologies. |
| AMARI Callbox Elite | Two eNB/gNB instances and up to two core networks for separate-network and inter-node scenarios, including dual-SIM tests. |
The examples are alternative configurations, not capacities that can be added together. A single-cell Mini does not provide multi-cell carrier aggregation or handover on its own. Compare Callbox configurations.
The Callbox combines LTE RAN, EPC, IMS, protocol logging and remote APIs. Five test SIM cards are supplied; configure the matching subscriber credentials for your device.
Connect through a conducted RF path with suitable attenuation, or a controlled radiated setup. Add the RF accessories your device needs and an external power analyser if current or energy measurements are part of the test.
Match carrier aggregation and MIMO to the UE capabilities and available radio resources. Inter-eNodeB testing requires two Callboxes or the two RAN instances of a Callbox Elite.
Illustrative lab setups to adapt to your device and test plan.
LTE device + test SIM + single-cell Callbox configuration. Check attach and IP connectivity, run your application, then vary APN and radio settings while reviewing the logs.
CA-capable device + compatible multi-cell Callbox + suitable RF connections. Establish a single-carrier baseline, add a supported secondary carrier and compare throughput and signalling across firmware versions.
VoLTE-capable device + test SIM + IMS-enabled multi-cell setup. Establish an audio loopback call, trigger the selected handover procedure and inspect call continuity, SIP and RRC messages.

The Callbox range also supports NR. Select the bandwidth, antenna paths and simultaneous cells needed for 5G SA or NSA device testing; NSA requires both LTE and NR resources.
